It Wasn't Always a Palace
Buckingham Palace started as a townhouse! Originally known as Buckingham House, it was built in 1703 for the Duke of Buckingham. King George III purchased it in 1761 as a private residence for Queen Charlotte, and it was later expanded into the grand palace we know today.
